About me

I enjoy working with individuals, adolescents (age 12 and up), couples, and families to help them have happier and more fulfilling lives. My style is comfortable, supportive, and professional.

I am respectful of my client's time and I frequently check in to make sure that the sessions are helpful. If one approach is not working, we try another!

When people are feeling anxious, depressed, or angry, often the problem is their stress level and lack of a support system. By helping people recognize, reduce, and more effectively manage their stress, a therapist can be your temporary support system, enabling you to more effectively address the problems in your life.

I keep my client load moderate so that I am an energetic and available therapist, giving the highest quality of care.

In addition to my private practice, I have also worked at Suburban Hospital, UMD Shady Grove's Counseling Center, and I was the Executive Director of Washington Pastoral Counseling Service.

Research shows that one of the most important factors in therapy effectiveness is the quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist. Does the client feel comfortable, accepted and supported? It is important to find the right match.

I look forward to meeting you, seeing if we are a good match, and helping you address whatever problems may seem overwhelming at the moment.

From Clients

" I wish I had come to see you years ago. I wonder how my life might be different."

"You helped carry me through one of the most difficult periods of my life. Thank you for being there with me, when I was barely there for myself."

"I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me your full time and attention"

I have never been to therapy before, and am a little apprehensive. What can I expect?

The first session will include filling out forms and sharing the problems and concerns that brought you in. The forms are available below if you would like to fill them out before your first appointment. After that, we begin a conversation designed to help you understand your problems and begin to move forward.

I offer a personalized approach, tailored to your individual needs, to help you attain personal growth and change. I make an easy connection with people, and I sometimes use my pets, especially with teens, to facilitate communication.

How do I know if a therapist is right for me?

To know if a therapist is the right fit for you, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Most importantly, do you feel comfortable and understood? (After all, you will probably be talking about some personal issues!)
  • Does the therapist seem knowledgeable about my problems and their solutions?
  • How many years have they been in practice? (More is generally better :)
  • Are they non-judgmental?
  • Is the focus of the session on me?
  • Do they collaboratively set therapy goals?
  • Do they openly answer my questions about their methods, fees, and training?
  • Do they seem energetic or always tired?
  • Are they on time for appointments?

It is important that you find a therapist that is right for you. Do not be embarrassed to trust your feelings and see another therapist if you don't feel comfortable, and don't feel like you have made some progress within 3 to 4 sessions. It is your life, your time, your money, and your well being

What types of counseling do you do?

I use multiple methods to treat a wide variety of problems and concerns. These methods may include Interpersonal and Psychodynamic theory Counseling, and Cognitive Behavioral Techniques. I provide individual, couples', and family counseling.

How much does it cost?

The first intake session for adolescents, and insomnia treatment, is 75 minutes, and costs $175.

After intake, all sessions are $135 per 50 minute session.
All fees are reimbursable from insurance, health savings accounts, and flexible spending accounts.

Are there any forms I need to fill out for the first session?

Yes, I have two different sets of forms depending on your age.
